Social Media

Social Media
The article “Dipping into Social Media in the Classroom” has a lot of important information for teachers that would allow the students as well as the teacher to grow. It provided opportunities to participate in Twitter. According to the site this would allow the students to deepen classroom conversation and increase communication. When using social media it allows colleagues to be role models for the students. Social media teaches balance to the teacher and student because it provides a reference any time of the day (but you do not have to do it). Also, this is good for teachers because it provides a way of staying current with the education field. Social media provides a opportunity for the teacher and student, it is a model, teaches a different way of learning information, and using social media allows the teacher stay up to date with strategies or laws in the education field.

“Social Media Helps Teachers Transform Classroom Culture” is a site that explains how one teacher can use social media to change other teachers perspectives about the classroom. She posts on her blog pictures what she incorporates in the classroom. Right now she is focused on positive classroom management styles. Other teachers are able to use social media to share what they do in the classroom. This means that more teachers are able to share and incorporate what they do in the classroom which in turn provides more opportunities for learning for the students.
“9 Ways to Use Social Media in Your Classroom”explains how teachers can get students to become involved in the learning process. Students can get involved by being social, blog, tweet, scoop, pin, tumblr, skype, or time it. Each of these are a way to communicate with other people. Through this class we have already started blogging and tweeting. Scoop is a way to see the current events and find out what students might be interested in. Skype is a way to view other locations while communicating. Time it uses the program Dipity or Tiki-tok to document students converstion about a particular topic while teaching class. Through all these programs teachers, and students from many locations can learn by communicating through various programs.

Social media is benificial to schools because it provides a way of communicating either to parents, students, and even other faculty. It can be used as professional development. It is also used to keep students actively thinking or researching about a particular topic.
